Meet Shannen

Best therapist for teens and families in Corpus Christi and virtually in Texas. SHANNEN YEE Therapy

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate in Texas, supervised by LMFT-S Julia Wesley. My credentials are a BA in English Literature, summa cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, 2022 and an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Massachusetts, 2025. My experience is in inpatient adolescent care, intensive outpatient chemical dependency for adults, and most recently with distressed couples, teens with identity concerns, and transition age adults overcoming difficult aspects of their childhood, problematic personal habits, and integrating into new relationships successfully.

My approach is rooted in relational psychotherapy, humanistic psychology, and family systems theory. These models adopt a non-pathologizing perspective, understanding negative symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and disordered behaviors as normal reactions to the difficulties of life and society - difficulties which vary in intensity depending on the individual. These approaches believe in the individual’s ability to change their states of mind and behaviors through deep connection with themselves and others. The therapeutic relationship between clinician and client is of central importance to the change process. The therapy works by identifying patterns, exploring deeply held beliefs, clarifying personal values, and fostering harmony within and between people. There are numerous interventions and ways to support your family or relationship through difficult times or periods of change. Including cognitive reframing, somatic awareness, mindfulness, corrective emotional experiences, communication and attachment style identification, and deep existential questioning.

I do this work because of my desire to live a life that is dedicated to understanding and embracing the human condition. I am described as a person who loves to connect with others and could befriend a brick wall (and find something to love!). In my free time I enjoy binge watching TV (Downton Abbey, Grey’s Anatomy), walking with my son and husband, and cooking along with Julia Child’s â€œThe French Chef" - bon appétit!

I am not here to put you in a box or tell you how to think. I am here to help you engage in honest self-reflection and develop your strengths. I am thrilled to support you in the search for meaning and the freedom to act and feel like yourself.
